Appearance

Mercury stands slightly above Cammie's waist. His body is lean and long, with a trailing tail that is usually waving about and is a good indicator of his current mood. He has four legs that end in paws with small retractable claws, like a cat's. There are clouds of condensation around his ankles. From his back rises a set of draconic wings, but instead of membrane, trailing lines of storm vapor fill their shape, making them impractical for flight. On the end of his long tail there is another tuft of the storm fragments. His large olive green eyes are shiny and sparkle with gold flecks. His ears are short and cupped, feline in appearance, and his muzzle is round and broad and rather harmless looking, until he opens it to bare his razor-sharp fangs. His hide is thick but does not have large scales, and it shimmers and shifts much like the surface of liquid mercury or a storm cloud. Around his neck, Mercury always wears the Fabula Finis.

Personality

Mercury is as stormy as his nature dictates and as capricious as Mother Nature. One moment, he can be a bouncing ray of sunshine, and the next moment, he can be a thundering bundle of anger and unpredictability. He has serious issues with being left alone, and he can barely stand having Cammie out of sight for a minute. He is also constantly testing his boundaries with her and trying to get his way. He is cheerful around others, but he could just as easily turn on them if he gets the notion. His curiosity and energy can be deceiving. On the whole, it is better that Cammie handles him, since her hard-nosed approach to childrearing is the only thing to keep him in line... besides the threat of taking away his Queen CDs, that is. Charaustra is becoming a force for good in his life, as she is more practical and won't put up with any of his episodes.

History

Mercury came from the Temple of Dea originally. Cammie was transported there from her time and dimension by a freak tornado accident. She was given his egg and dumped back into her home, at which point she freaked out, which, of course, scarred Mercury for life. He was relieved when she decided to keep him and take care of him, and since then, he has traveled with her in search of the so-called "marbles" that are lost in the storms. He hatched on board the stormchasing trailer and was immediately dubbed the team mascot. Recently, there has, however, been a change of plans, as a strange man and his Clarus bond have appeared. Mercury isn't quite sure who they are and why they suddenly are there, but the man is fun to poke at.

Bondmate Relationship

The relationship between Cammie and Mercury got off to a rough start. Between wanting to throw him away and rejecting his attempts to bond with her directly, Cammie didn't make a very good first impression. Mercury, then known as "The Egg", was a bit wary of her. Her willingness to accept their mission, her intelligence, her courage, and her adventurous nature, however, continued to interest Mercury, and he didn't give up on her just yet. After hatching, Cammie was a much better bondmate, but there were still a few problems, including his tempestuous temperament. Their relationship is definitely a work in progress.

These glowing marbles have been lost in the storms, and, according to Mercury, they all need to be found. He and Cammie have set out to find them.

Mercury's Past Stages

Stage: Egg
Size: 7" in diameter, about 12" in height
Obtained: August 15, 2004

This is The Egg. Originally, he was kept in The Bag until Cammie could figure out what to make of him. Once she had stopped considering him a coma delusion, Cammie decided that she had to take him back to the Temple. The Egg, however, had other ideas... mainly, ideas involving the collection of small glowing marbles. Strangely enough, Cammie agreed, and off they went to chase the pesky marbles down.

Stage: Hatchling
Size: 1' 7" long, head about 9" high when sitting normally, body about 5" in diameter
Obtained: November 28, 2004

This is Mercury's hatchling stage. In this stage, he was still very small, and he needed a lot of looking after. He got his name from his favorite band, Queen, whose leader was Freddie Mercury. Cammie thought this fitting, since mercury is also an element used in thermometers and barometers, instruments vital to the field of meteorology. Mercury the element is a shiny, silver-grey metal that is liquid at room temperature.

Stage: Adolescent

Mercury's growth to his adolescent form was rapid, to say the least, and he quite surprised Cammie and the others by spontaneously transforming into his Flightless Ventilo form. Upon testing his new body, he was quite disappointed to find that he was unable to fly. This played a major factor in his decision to concentrate in the area of Bifuu, or Air magic. He hoped to use the magic to learn to fly. At this stage, his unpredictable tendencies became somewhat dangerous, since he was much larger and had gained claws as well. Luckily, he also had a deep love for Cammie and a fear of her rejection, so he tried his best to behave.

Stage: Adult

Mercury grew to adulthood at record speed, even surprising Charaustra and Jason. Although just a bit shorter than Char, he exceeds her in length and wingspan. At his Coming of Age Ceremony, he received a mysterious locket known as the Fabula Finis. It is said that when the locket opens, he will be the master of not one but two elements. True to character, he has been trying to break it open ever since. Unfortunately, our dear Mercury has yet to learn much self control. Charaustra, however, is there to keep him in line. Now that he is an adult, she is not going to take any crap from him.
