Franklin is a real American wizard, and we aren't talking the Harry Potter type. His family was from the British Isles in the old days, before they emigrated to America. He was raised with magic and the occult as part of his life, home-schooled by his aunt and uncle with his cousins and several children from other magic-using families. He became a wizard at a young age, when he was only twenty-five years old. Since then, he has made a name for himself as a procurer of rare spell ingredients and magical artifacts. Wizards are flashy as a rule, and Franklin's line of work is dangerous. Thus, he has become very good at all sorts of magic-that-goes-boom. He is also a fair hand at locating things and creating and removing barriers. His skills with potions, enchantments, charms, and the like are, at best, questionable. He often relies on his more talented friends for things like magical boxes and escape potions. Franklin spends most of his time hunting down things for clients and visiting with people in the magic community to keep up to date on news and events.
Franklin is in his seventies, which is very young for a wizard. Because of their inherent abilities, talented magic users, especially fully ranked ones, can live for a very long time. Their appearance progresses more slowly, with some relationship to how old the magic user actually feels and to their experience level. Franklin looks to be in his thirties; he stopped aging not long after he became a wizard. He always dresses in black, a habit that most other serious magic users find amusing. His clothes are always good quality, as he has a respectable business image to keep up. Even while out on jobs, he is well dressed. Only occasionally, when at home in his own apartment, does he wear t-shirts and jeans. And they are always black. He is average height but his build makes him look taller than he is. His brown hair is kept in a neat classic cut, but he lets it grow a bit longer than most would, so it constantly falls just a bit over his ears, neck, and forehead. On first glance, one might find him to be attractive—he has a decent jaw line, straight nose, and a look in his eyes that is distant without being cold. His smile is warm and genuine, when he chooses to show it.
For someone his age, Franklin can be very reserved. Many younger wizards are overly flashy and ostentatious. Franklin is only flashy when he is blowing something up. He tries not to do that too often... but his job often requires it. He is cautious and detail oriented—definitely not the Indiana Jones type. When he takes a job, he does it right. He doesn't always get what his client wants, but his success rate is far greater than most other treasure hunters can boast. The wizard requires only the retainer fee up front; the rest is paid only if the item is obtained. Franklin is generally quiet and pensive as a rule, unless he is among friends. Even then, he would never be called the life of the party. He is well spoken; his aunt never tolerated too much American slang. His ability to be diplomatic and reasonable often helps him in his line of work. And if it doesn't, he can always call up a gigantic fire ball.
Very recently, Franklin decided to offer sanctuary to a young girl named Star. She is an Oracle... or, at least, she will be someday, according to the Immortals. Franklin feels that since she has no temple or organization to care for her, he should do what he can to help her. Of course, he may have more trouble than he bargained for. Certain people will do just about anything to obtain the power of an Oracle.
